About the Pledge of the Computing Professional

The Pledge of the Computing Professional promotes the notion of computing as a recognized profession at the time of graduation for students in computer science, information technology, and other computing-related programs. It is modeled after the Order of the Engineer[JM2.1], a long-standing rite-of-passage for graduates from engineering programs. The Pledge of the Computing Professional celebrates those who transition to careers of service to society with their computing degree.

Inductees who take the Pledge of the Computing Professional receive a pin.

Qualifying for the Pledge of the Computing Professional Ceremony

To qualify for the ceremony, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  1. Are graduating with your BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, information technology, computer vision, cybersecurity/privacy, data analytics, or digital forensics from UCF.
  2. Have previously graduated from an ABET-accredited institution with a BS in one of the above fields.

RSVP & Payment

Inductees

Students wishing to participate in the ceremony must register and pay in advance of the ceremony. The cost to participate in the ceremony is $20, plus applicable taxes/fees. Cost includes the pin, a certificate, and a light reception after the ceremony. Payments are non-refundable.

Guests

Up to two guests may be pre-registered at the time of ticket purchase. Guests cannot be registered at the door. Unregistered guests will not be admitted.

Additional Important Information

  • The dress code for inductees is business (preferred) or business casual. Guests are also encouraged to follow this dress code.
  • Photography is available at the event, and photos will be sent to inductees in the days following the event.
  • You must be present at the ceremony to receive your pin and certificate. If you cannot attend the ceremony in the semester you registered for, you will need to attend in a later semester.

How often is the ceremony held?
The ceremony is held twice a year in May (Spring graduates) and December (Summer and Fall graduates).
When is the ceremony held?
It is typically scheduled the business day before the commencement ceremony for CECS. Because the exact date of the commencement ceremony varies each semester, exact ceremony dates are only known during that same semester. Commencement dates for specific colleges are posted online at https://www.ucf.edu/graduation/commencement/.
Where is the ceremony held?
The ceremony is typically held in a large lecture hall on campus. The exact location can vary each semester.
How long is the ceremony?
The ceremony is approximately two hours long. It is run concurrently with the Order of the Engineer [JM3.1]ceremony.
I am graduating in Summer. Can I still participate in a ceremony?
Yes, Summer graduates are invited to the Fall ceremony.
Are children allowed at this event?
Children are permitted at this event, but must be pre-registered like other guests. If you need to register children in addition to your two allotted guests, please contact Avery Iglesias (Avery.Iglesias@ucf.edu) after completing your registration online.
I forgot to register my guests, or I did not know my guests at the time I registered. How can I register my guests?
You may complete a guest-only registration without paying a second registration fee. Please note that each inductee may bring up to two guests.
Can I register myself/my guests at the event?
No, all registration must be completed by the listed deadline, prior to the event. All guests must be pre-registered. Each inductee may bring up to two guests.
Can I obtain my pin and certificate without attending the event?
No, you must attend the ceremony to receive your pin and certificate. If you register for the event and cannot attend, you will need to attend a later ceremony.
I can’t attend the ceremony. Can I get a refund?
No, the event is not refundable. If you register for the event and cannot attend, you will need to attend a later ceremony.

The certificate uses the official legal name listed for the student in myUCF.
