About the Order of the Engineer
The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The Order is not a membership organization; there are never any meetings to attend or dues to pay. Instead, the Order fosters a unity of purpose and the honoring of one’s pledge lifelong.
The Engineer’s Ring in the United States is a stainless-steel ring, worn on the fifth finger of the working hand by engineers who have accepted the Obligation of an Engineer in a Ring Ceremony.

Qualifying for the Order of the Engineer Ceremony
To qualify for the ceremony, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Are graduating with your BS, MS, or PhD in an engineering program from UCF.
- Have previously graduated from an ABET-accredited institution with a BS in engineering (engineering technology is not included).
- Have a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
Ring Sizing for the Order of the Engineer Ceremony
A ring size must be known for every inductee. Students who do not submit a ring size by the deadline listed for that semester will not be able to participate in the ceremony.
There are two options for ring sizing: getting sized in the CECS Academic Affairs Office (recommended) or submitting it electronically via email.
In-Person Ring Sizing
Ring sizing is available in the CECS Academic Affairs Office in Engineering 1, Room 107. Inductees must bring a photo ID (UCF ID preferred) and the Eventbrite email confirmation/receipt (digital copy preferred) when getting sized.
Email Submission
For inductees who are unable to visit the CECS Academic Affairs Office, a ring size may be submitted electronically instead. Please measure the ring size of the pinky of your dominant hand and provide the measurement to Avery Iglesias (Avery.Iglesias@ucf.edu) by the listed deadline for the semester. Please provide your measurement using US ring sizes (5, 5.5, 6, etc.). Many jewelry stores offer ring sizing. It is the inductee’s responsibility to provide an accurate ring size.
RSVP & Payment
Inductees
Students wishing to participate in the ceremony must register and pay in advance of the ceremony. The cost to participate in the ceremony is $30, plus applicable taxes/fees. Cost includes the ring, a certificate, and a light reception after the ceremony. Payments are non-refundable.
Guests
Up to two guests may be pre-registered at the time of ticket purchase. Guests cannot be registered at the door. Unregistered guests will not be admitted.
Additional Important Information
- The dress code for inductees is business (preferred) or business casual. Guests are also encouraged to follow this dress code.
- Photography is available at the event, and photos will be sent to inductees in the days following the event.
- You must be present at the ceremony to receive your ring and certificate. If you cannot attend the ceremony in the semester you registered for, you will need to attend in a later semester.

How often is the ceremony held?
The ceremony is held twice a year in May (Spring graduates) and December (Summer and Fall graduates).

It is typically scheduled the business day before the commencement ceremony for CECS. Because the exact date of the commencement ceremony varies each semester, exact ceremony dates are only known during that same semester. The ceremony is typically held in a large lecture hall on campus. The exact location can vary each semester.

The ceremony is approximately two hours long. It is run concurrently with the Pledge of the Computing Professional [JM1.1]ceremony.

I am graduating in Summer. Can I still participate in a ceremony?
Yes, Summer graduates are invited to the Fall ceremony.

Are children allowed at this event?
Children are permitted at this event, but must be pre-registered like other guests. If you need to register children in addition to your two allotted guests, please contact Avery Iglesias (Avery.Iglesias@ucf.edu) after completing your registration online.

You may complete a guest-only registration without paying a second registration fee. Please note that each inductee may bring up to two guests.
